PRIZES

The first place winner in each category will receive $50 and a specially designed framed award. The Founder’s Award will be awarded to the overall winner of the first place winners and receives an additional $50 prize.  The winner of People’s Choice Award as voted by any Festival Attendee on Saturday, August 10, will also receive $50.

JUDGING CRITERIA

Originality/Creativity of the use of flowers and streamers, and on Construction:

  • Is the kazari constructed in a way that expands upon the traditional method?
    • Unique design in place of the kusudama (ball): alternative shapes and materials are acceptable.
    • Your kusudama must be covered at least 50% with handmade paper flowers.
    • It must have streamers, which can be made of paper; strings of origami; other items may also be included.
  • Construction Tip:  Use of heavy duty scotch tape, double-sided tape, and glue or thin wire should be used to support paper flowers.
  • Materials Not Recommended:  Lightweight items, e.g. foil, ribbon, tend to tangle and fall off and are not recommended.

Size and Weight Maximums: The kazari must not exceed the following specifications or it will be disqualified and ineligible for the contest:

  • MAXIMUM HEIGHT:  8 feet
  • MAXIMUM WIDTH:  22 inches
  • MAXIMUM WEIGHT:  8 pounds

$5 EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT:  Register ONLINE by June 30, 2019 and pay 1/2 price!
